GSU 2018 Teaching Awards
Nominate TAs & Grad Instructors from the 2017 calendar year

Graduate Students who taught at the University of Notre Dame during the 2017 calendar year are eligible.

$300 GSU Award for Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant

$300 GSU Award for Outstanding Graduate Instructor

$100 Honorable Mention awards in each category

Nominations may come from:

  • The Chair or Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) of the academic department
  • The faculty member responsible for the course
  • The graduate student

Deadline for submission of all materials: TBA

 

 

(1) OUTSTANDING GRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANT

Eligible students who were responsible for some aspect of instruction in a course taught by a faculty member (running labs, discussion sections, etc.) in the 2017 calendar year are eligible for this award.          

THE APPLICATION PACKET MUST INCLUDE:

a)     Cover Page

b)     A supporting statement including specific examples that demonstrate the nominee’s ability as an outstanding teacher and the motivation for the nomination.  This statement may not exceed 750 words.

c)     One measure of teaching performance, including one of the following (but NOT more than one):

a.     CIF summary:  This must be obtained directly from the Center for Institutional Data website (cif.nd.edu)

b.     Faculty member’s review of the data.  (CIF data processed by a graduate student will not be accepted.)

c.     A written statement on behalf of the nominee from no more than two students commenting on the nominee's specific responsibilities and merit.  Materials must originate from the authors of the letters.  The applicant is to have no contact with such materials.

d)     The course syllabus.

Part E does not apply, if the supporting statement (b) originates from a faculty member and includes this information:

e)     A letter from an appropriate faculty member indicating the nominee’s specific responsibilities for the course. Again, this letter must originate from its author.

 

 

(2) OUTSTANDING GRADUATE INSTRUCTOR

Students who have independently taught academic courses in 2017 are eligible.

THE APPLICATION PACKET MUST INCLUDE:

a)     Cover Page

b)     A supporting statement including specific examples that demonstrate the nominee’s ability as an outstanding teacher and the motivation for the nomination.  This statement may not exceed 750 words.

c)     One measure of teaching performance, including either (but not both):

(a)   CIF summary:  This must be obtained directly from the Center for Institutional Data website (cif.nd.edu)

(b)   Faculty member’s review of the data (CIF data processed by a graduate student will not be accepted).

d)     The course syllabus.

              Part E only applies if the graduate student nominates him/herself:

e)     A letter from an appropriate faculty member, perhaps from a teaching mentor or class observer, who can speak to the nominee’s strengths as a scholar and instructor.  Again, this letter must originate from its author.

 

 

All applications for both awards will be processed electronically. All application materials should be sent to: GSUteachingaward2017@gmail.com  All items must be in PDF or MS Word .doc or .docx file format. All items must be in 10 or 12 point font with 1 inch margins.

 

A selection committee appointed by the GSU Executive Board will choose award recipients. Awards will be announced in late April/early May.
